And so begins the winter escape to Nicaragua… not with a bang, but with a massive yawn.

Not the most flattering shot, but I’ve gotten in the habit of starting my trips off with a selfie taken in a transportation terminal at an ungodly hour. In this case, the terminal was the Ottawa Greyhound station, and the hour was 2:15 AM.

J and I boarded the 2:45 AM “dirty dog” bound for Montreal’s Pierre Elliott Trudeau Airport, where the bus disgorged us, bleary-eyed but grinning, two hours later. We breezed through the Check-In with Copa Airlines, and then passed through security in five minutes flat. I will say this: the pain in the butt of getting to the airport at a stupid hour is easily offset by the speed at which you can get to your terminal.

And so, here we are, at 6:45 in the morning, waiting for our first flight, to Panama City. After a 7 hour layover there and one short little 1 hour flight, we’ll finally be in Nicaragua!

Stay tuned for the next road dispatch!
